Tools to Help Ergonomics At Work:

Today we will discuss the proper use of a lumbar support roll. Lumbar support rolls are used to support good sitting posture. This helps decrease stress and compression on the spine, which over time can create back pain. Some chairs have built-in lumbar support rolls, which can be very convenient.

Find The Right Size Roll:

The lumbar rolls are not always a one-size-fits-all. Imagine a 6’1 individual sitting on a chair, and then a 5'5 individual sitting on that chair. There are different needs for different people. The nice thing about the lumbar support rolls is they come in different sizes and densities to properly fit you.

Proper Set-Up:

The first thing we're going to do is back into the chair as far as possible. Once you do this, lean forward, and strap the lumbar support roll to the chair. Place the roll portion right above your belt line. Now, lean back against the roll so the hollow in your lower back is firmly supported. The nice thing about the lumbar support roll is you don't have to think about it.

Problems arise if no lumbar support is on the chair.  Without lumbar support, the lower back will start to round, affecting your posture throughout the spine in a negative way. It is a tool that is very versatile and can be put anywhere that has a back to the seat. If you need any guidance on how to place the support or if it is right for you, please contact us, we are happy to help!
