What we see

Headaches We Help With

The key to managing headaches is understanding what is behind them. We ask about tension, posture, jaw clenching, sleep and the repetitive things you do every day.

  • Tension headaches

The most common type: a dull pressure around the head, like a tight band, often spreading into the neck and shoulders. Stress, computer work and long periods on a device are common triggers.

  • Neck-related (cervicogenic) headaches

Pain that starts in a stiff, tight neck and radiates into the head, on one or both sides. It can make you not want to turn or bend your neck.

  • Migraines

Intense, often one-sided, throbbing headaches with sensitivity to light, sound and smell. We work alongside your medical care.

  • Jaw & TMJ-related headaches

Clenching and jaw tension can feed headaches. We check the jaw as part of your exam.

  • Posture & desk headaches

Leaning toward a screen with rounded shoulders tightens the chest and the muscles at the base of the skull.

  • Sinus pressure

In dry weather and around the holidays, acupuncture can help release pressure in the face.

How we help

How We Care for Headaches in Golden Valley

Adjustments can bring quick relief, but our goal is long-term management. We help you find your triggers and give you tools to use at home.

  • Chiropractic adjustments

To reduce tension and restore movement in the neck joints, taking load off overworked muscles.

  • Soft-tissue work

Muscle work before adjustments so tightness doesn't pull the adjustment back. Sessions may start with heat or electrical muscle stimulation.

  • Acupuncture

Needling the head, neck or shoulders depending on where you hold tension. Treatment usually takes about 30 minutes; plan for 30 to 40.

  • Craniosacral technique

A gentle, light-touch technique often used for tension headaches and neck tension. Learn more

  • Exercises & nerve glides

Strengthening for weak deep neck muscles, stretches for tight ones, and occipital nerve flossing when that nerve is irritated.

  • Trigger & posture coaching

We look at posture, hobbies, exercise, sleep and how you carry your head, and help you change what feeds your headaches.

Getting started

Your First Visit

Nothing happens before you understand it. Ask questions at every step.

  1. History & exam

After you book a New Patient Appointment, you'll get an email to set up your account and fill out intake forms. Your first visit starts with a full history and a hands-on exam of how you move.

  2. Find the pain generator

Dr. Tim breaks spine pain into four structures that can cause symptoms: the joints, the discs, the nerve roots and the muscles. Testing each one tells us what is driving your pain, and what is not.

  3. A plan you understand

We explain what we found and what we recommend before any treatment. Your plan includes in-office care plus exercises and habits to use at home, with a defined goal.

Call 911 or get emergency care if

You have a sudden, severe "worst ever" headache; a headache after a head injury; a headache with fever and a stiff neck; or a headache with confusion, weakness, numbness, vision changes or trouble speaking. A new pattern of headaches should also be checked by your medical doctor. For a medical emergency, call 911.
