Struggling with low back pain?
Check out this video on how back pain can form.
Treatments For Low Back Pain
Depending on the severity of your pain, you may need to limit your activities for a period, especially bending, twisting, and lifting, as well as any other painful actions.
It is not in your best interests to stay in bed. You should stay active and resume normal activities as soon as your symptoms allow.
The usage of a lumbar support belt for a short period of time may be beneficial. Sitting makes your back more sensitive to sprains and strains from sudden or unexpected motions for a short period of time. Every 20 minutes, take a 10-second "micro-break" from your workstation. After an acute injury, apply ice for 15-20 minutes every hour. After a few days, or if the discomfort is from a more persistent source, heat may be required. Inquire with your doctor about specific ice/heat suggestions. Sports creams have been reported to provide partial comfort and assistance to some sufferers.
What causes your low back pain?
The "lumbar spine," or low back, is made up of five bones stacked on top of each other, each with a shock-absorbing disc
Tissues and ligaments provide support for your low back. "Sprains" and "strains" are the result of pulling these muscle fibres too hard or too far, similar to how a thread frays when stretched past its natural capacity.
The term "sprain" refers to an injury to the thick, durable ligaments that hold your bones together, whereas "strain" refers to a partial tear in the tissues or tendons that move your trunk
What are some common stressors of low back pain?
Most people will experience low back discomfort at some point in their lives, and 70% of those cases can be linked to sprain/strain injuries.
Unexpected or powerful motions, such as a fall, twist, raise, push, pull, direct blow, or rapidly straightening up from a seated, crouched, or bending position, can cause lumbar sprains and strains. Sprains and strains are most commonly the result of recurrent overloading rather than a single occurrence.
Small isolated stresses are generally tolerated well by the spine, but persistent challenges cause harm in the same way as repeatedly bending a piece of copper wire causes it to break. Poor postures, sedentary lives, ill-fitting workstations, repeated actions, inappropriate lifting, and being overweight are all examples of stressors.
Symptoms Of Low Back Pain
Symptoms of a sprain/strain may appear suddenly, although they usually develop gradually.
Symptoms might range from minor aches and pains to excruciating agony that worsens as you move.
While rest can help with symptoms, it can also cause stiffness. The discomfort is normally in your lower back, but it can also spread to your hips and thighs. If your discomfort extends beyond your knee, you have weakness in your lower extremities, or you have a fever, call your doctor.
Understanding Back Sprains & Strains
Sprain/strain injuries cause less elastic "scar tissue" to replace your original healthy elastic tissue.
This can result in chronic pain and possibly arthritis as a result of this procedure. More than 60% of patients who choose to skip therapy and "just cope with it" alleviate their persistent low back pain. Early and adequate therapy, such as the kind provided in our office, is crucial.
