Is Chiropractic care safe?

Chiropractic is widely recognized as one of the safest drug-free, non-invasive therapies available for the treatment of neuromusculoskeletal complaints. Although Chiropractic has an excellent safety record, no health treatment is completely free of potential adverse effects. The risks associated with Chiropractic, however, are very small. Many patients feel immediate relief following chiropractic treatment, but some may experience mild soreness, stiffness or aching, just as they do after some forms of exercise. Current research shows that minor discomfort or soreness following spinal manipulation typically fades within 24 hours. Doctors of Chiropractic are well trained professionals who provide patients with safe, effective care for a variety of common conditions. Their extensive education has prepared them to identify patients who have special risk factors and to get those patients the most appropriate care, even if that requires referral to a medical specialist.

What can I expect on my first visit?

Your doctor will take a complete medical history, and ask specific questions related to the complaint that brought you into the clinic. Additionally, your doctor will want to know about family history, previous injuries and medical history. Gathering this information will help your doctor make a diagnosis. A physical examination will be performed, and your doctor may order tests such as x-rays and other tests that are deemed necessary. Please bring in your insurance card and photo ID. Depending on your history and examination, treatment is often performed at initial treatment. Prepare to spend forty minutes to an hour at your initial visit. Visits afterwards can range from ten minutes to thirty minutes depending on your treatment.

Is Chiropractic treatment appropriate for children?

Yes, children can benefit from Chiropractic care. Children are very physically active and experience many types of falls and blows from activities of daily living as well as from participating in sports. Injuries such as these may cause many symptoms including back and neck pain, stiffness, soreness or discomfort. Chiropractic care is always adapted to the individual patient. It is a highly skilled treatment, and in the case of children, very gentle.

Why do newborns get adjustments?

Even today’s childbirth methods can cause spinal trauma. Studies suggest that infantile colic, poor appetite, ear infections, or erratic sleeping habits can be signs of spinal distress. Pediatric adjustments are gentle, safe, and offer a drugless alternative that many parents prefer.

Do I have to continue Chiropractic treatment forever?

Many people come to a Chiropractor for a single specific ailment. You may decide that once you are out of pain, you have completed treatment. However, for permanent relief, it may take more time and commitment on your part, depending on the severity of your pain. You are in complete control of how long your treatment lasts. Your Chiropractor will give you information and answer questions and together, you and the doctor will come up with a treatment plan that’s
individualized and right for you.

Do I need a referral from an Medical Doctor to visit a Chiropractor?

It’s not required that you get a referral from your MD to book an appointment with a Chiropractor. Be sure to check the specifics of your health plan before booking your appointment.
