Today we are going over a few tips that are very beneficial in protect your low back, so you can still take care of your family.

Below are Four Main Tips on how to bend over and pick up your kids.

1. STANCE.

To start out, we need to situate ourselves in the correct position. Feet in a wide, shoulder-width stance, so we can distibute weight in a larger area and use our leg muscles, especially our hamstrings and glutes, and NOT our low back.

2. POSITION.

Position yourself close to your child. This helps to keep a smaller lever when picking up and make it easier on you. Try to keep your child at the level of your belly button.

3. SQUAT. ARMPITS. CHEST. EXHALE.

Bend at the knees and hips. Grab underneath the armpit pits. Lift while keeping your chest open and back straight. Exhale as you lift to engage your core. Avoid twisting while lifting.

4. HOLDING.

Once you get them up, the big thing is you want to make sure that you're not placing them on the same hip everytime they lift. Make sure to try to alternate sides to avoid putting repetitive stress into the low back and shoulder.
