First, find a quiet spot, and 5 minutes for yourself away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. It's essential to give yourself this time to focus inward and assess your body.

Lie down on your back with your feet firmly planted on the ground. Relax your shoulders and place three fingers just above your belly button, pressing gently into your stomach. Now, take a deep breath in, exhale, and lift your head and shoulders off the mat, maintaining pressure on your stomach.

How many finger-widths of separation do you feel? Is the tissue soft, squishy, or firm? Can you push all three fingers into the gap? Make a note of your observations, focusing on the area just above your belly button.

Next, move your fingers about three inches upward, below your belly button, towards your sternum and ribcage. Repeat the process: inhale, exhale, lift, and assess. Note any separation, its depth, and the quality of the tissue.

Lastly, shift your focus below your belly button, repeating the evaluation process. Pay attention to any differences you notice in this area compared to the others.

Remember, it's important to perform this test periodically but not obsessively. Your body needs time to adjust and heal, so be patient with yourself. Dr. Madeline reminds us that change takes time, and it's crucial to approach your health journey with grace and patience.
