In this blog, we are going to discuss sitting and what happens in the back, as well as some simple things you can do throughout the day to keep your back feeling well with prolonged periods of sitting.

We put a lot of compression into our spine, mostly in the disc structures which are the shock absorbers of the spine. We create a lot of tension on the front side of our hip called the hip flexor muscle group. There can also be a restriction of blood flow in that gluteal or buttock region. Sitting for long periods of time also creates a lot of fatigue which puts us into that lazy posture.

Treatment Options

We can start to stretch the ligaments of all the areas that can manifest symptoms and promote that painful sitting. Below are some really simple ways that you can reduce that pain and get you to feel good with prolonged periods of sitting.

Exercises:

  1. Movement
  2. Ergonomic workspace (lumbar support, sit-to-stand desk)
