Many patients who come to us with headaches often have jobs that require repetitive sitting and computer work. The key to effectively treating headaches lies in understanding the root cause. There are many potential contributors: Is it tension-related? Posture-related? Is jaw clenching involved? Could it be hormonal, or related to TMJ (temporomandibular joint disorder)? We also consider how you sleep and what repetitive movements or stressors are impacting your upper back and neck.

While adjustments can provide quick relief, our goal is long-term management. We help identify the triggers behind your headaches and equip you with the right stretches, exercises, and tools to manage them at home.

In addition to adjustments, I always incorporate soft tissue work into our treatments. It’s important to address the tension in the muscles because if we don’t, that tightness will pull the adjustment back to its previous state. That’s why I usually start with some muscle work before adjustments. We may even begin your session with heat therapy or electrical muscle stimulation to further ease muscle tension.

Often, posture plays a significant role, particularly when there’s tightness in the chest and pectoral muscles. If you’re sitting at a computer for extended periods, leaning forward, and rounding your shoulders, it can create tension that leads to headaches. I also consider daily habits like how you hold objects, which side you favor, and how these might be contributing to imbalances.
