Today, I want to bring awareness to a condition called the female athlete triad. It’s more common than you might think and includes:
-
Low energy availability (often from undereating or overtraining)
-
Menstrual irregularities
-
Low bone mineral density, which can lead to stress fractures and long-term health concerns
Research shows that more than 75% of high school female distance runners report disordered eating, and nearly half experience menstrual irregularities. These are not small warning signs—they’re red flags for lifelong issues if left unaddressed.
But here’s the good news: with early recognition and proper support—nutrition, chiropractic care, and education—athletes can thrive in their sport while protecting their future health.
It’s not weak to rest. It’s not selfish to fuel properly. It’s powerful to listen to your body and ask for help.
Watch the video to learn more about how we can protect and empower the next generation of athletes.
Together, let’s raise resilient, strong, and self-aware athletes.
