Too Much Sitting Causes Pain:

Computer jobs and other seated work environments are set to increase at a rate that is 3 times faster than the average occupation. These types of jobs can cause too much time sitting. Research shows us that sitting too much can be a major risk factor associated with diabetes, weight gain, heart disease, and other health issues. As a chiropractor, one of the associated risk factors we see with prolonged sitting is neck and shoulder pain.

Break the Seated Cycle:

At Forward Spine Center, we encourage desk workers to switch up their computer use to minimize sedentary behavior. One way we can change this is by implementing standing desks. Rather than sitting in a chair, this reduces our time in one position, which can create stress on our bodies. That being said these desks may not be for everyone, so feel free to ask us, we are glad to help.

How Long to Stand:

It is important to listen to your body when determining how long of a period you should sit, and when to switch to standing. A good rule of thumb is to notice when your lower back becomes stiff or starts to become uncomfortable. That would be a great time to stand. The same can be said for determining when to go from standing to sitting.

We hope this helps. If you have any questions you can contact us at Forward Spine Center.
